Josiah’s was interesting but what was even more interesting is his words about his work. He spoke in a very intelligent and philosophical way despite not considering himself as educated. A lot of what he said really resonated with me. And I understand titles not being accurate to the meaning of the pieces he produces. He also talked about the nihilism of telling our youth that the world is doomed which was interesting. And his work in relation to the real world. What I took away from it is that humanity represents order in a way. Because we create “Perfect” shapes such as cubes and spheres. Nature however represents chaos. This is because natural shapes are always imperfect. Even an atom is an ellipse rather than a perfect sphere. Human beings want to perfect things as much as possible despite it being impossible all for the sake of being at the center of the universe. Although with that being said I feel like this artist talked more about their views than they did on their actual work. They haven’t talked about their process nearly as much as they talked about their views on fascism. That was a little jarring. But in spite of that I did enjoy the artist.

After which we visited about 4 galleries. Only 1 of them really caught my attention. Which is a gallery that holds older work. There are a series of loose sketches there that I actually enjoyed. The reason why I enjoyed the sketches is because they don’t try to be a statement using abstract or political messages, it’s simply a sketch that someone enjoyed drawing. That’s not to say that a work that has a moral or political message via an abstract method is always boring. But it needs to be done in such a way where there is a use of technical skill and know how to actually make it interesting for me personally. But even then the loose sketches are still a nice break from having a moral/political message behind artwork. It also held a sculpture piece that held a painting in the middle. That was really cool in a way that is hard to describe. But the person who made that is really skilled. The rest of the galleries I unfortunately don’t really have too much to speak about. The disco one was interesting in its use of light and the positive message behind it. With that being said it’s hard for me to become invested when it doesn’t align with my special interest.
